two cute new things

It has been a crazy week and weekend. According to  Wander Weeks Alina is going through a new developmental leap, when she is constantly whining, not sleeping or eating well and on top of it I think her top 4 teeth are coming through- so I ready to pull my hair out!!! But I keep reminding myself that this too shall pass, and trying to enjoy every moment of it!

Last night I finished my two new projects- hat (flower tutorial could be found  here) and a headband!

For a headband I tried new pattern, and I will share it in one of my next posts!

Poppy Love FREE pattern

Not long ago there was a sale at Gymboree store. We were taking a walk with Alina and went in to take a look. And I just fell in love with their poppy flower collection. Wanted to grab everything and run))) But we ended up buying these two cute outfits.

They also had hats and shoes to go with it, but I thought life would be just too simple and ordinary and decided to make something myself :))

So I am making a sunhat with poppy flower for my shop and headband for Alina!

I tried different patterns and today I want to share with you my favorite one!

Poppy Flower
Abbreviations:
Ch- chain
dc- double crochet
sc-single crochet
sl st- slip stitch
trc-treble crochet
Materials:
Light green yarn
Black yarn
Red yarn
Hook (I used #3, and my flower 4inches is in diameter)
We begin by making the center of the flower with green yarn. It has two parts-the upper one and the bottom one.
Bottom part

Bottom part:
Row1: Ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from the hook (6sc)
Row2: 2sc in each sc of previous round (12sc)
Finish off.
Upper part

Upper part:
Row1: ch2, 6sc in 2nd chain from the hook (6sc)
Row2: 2sc in each sc of previous round (12sc)
Row3-5: sc in each stitch (12sc)
Row 6

Now we need to change yarn to black and joining two parts together (upper and bottom), continue following this pattern:
Row6: {2sc in next st, 3sc in next st} repeat till the end of the row. (30sc)
Row 7
Row7: ch6, {trc, ch2} repeat in each st around, sl st in the 4th chain space od ch6.(you should have now 30 trc)
Row 8

Now we need to change to red yarn and start making petals, one at a time.
Row8:ch1, 2sc in ch2 space, {1sc in next stitch, 2sc in next ch2 space} repeat 4 times. Turn.

Row 9

Row9: ch1, skip 1st stitch, sl st in next st, 1dc in next two st, 2dc in next 6 stitches, dc in next 2 stitches, sl st in next, sc in the last stitch. Turn.
Row 10
Row10: ch1, skip 1st stitch, sc in next st, dc in next st, {dc in next st, 2dc in next st} repeat 2 times, 2dc in next 2 stitches, {dc in next st, 2dc in next 2 st} repeat 4 times, 2dc in next st, sl st in next st, sc in next  st, 2sc in ch1 space, sc in dc of Row7.
Repeat Row8-10 for the rest of the petals.
Whew!!!
I know it seems so complicated, but once you will figure out how to make the first petal, you will easily finish them all
I found this pattern on one of the Russian forums and just translated it in English. Hope  it all make sense!)))))
I am going to embellish it with beads, and show you some pictures once I finish the hat!
Also I will try to share another pattern for poppy flower in one of my next posts!
So stay tunned)
Thanks for visiting!
